Planking - The Latest Craze of Gen Next
admin — May 26, 2011 - 15:37
The next generation surely knows to have fun. We are bound to see the young generation enjoying life everyday partying hard. The next gen surely wants some thrills everyday and they do come with new out of the box ideas. The latest one being planking, it’s one of the latest crazes where one lies head down on various things ranging from the floor to railway tracks striking a bizarre pose. The next thing they do is ya of course upload it on Facebook to get a fan following and a number of comments. This trend has got more popular in Australia where they got a Facebook page called Planking Australia with over 16000 fans and the page has a range of bizarre pictures trying to outdo each other.
The rage got on to this Australian teenager, who tried to strike a planking pose on a seventh storey balcony in Brisbane which made him plunge to his death. With this issue coming into the limelight, there are mixed opinions from the society where some people call the next generation dumb and others seem to encourage such ideas as an innovative way of having fun.
The cops too have their take on this and say planking is not illegal but doing it on public or private property could be taken as a charge for trespassing.
This would be an easy catch for the cops wont it? Why bother chasing murderers and bank robbers when you can charge these innocent people lying down.

Sounds like fun. I'm 62 and I'm going to give it a go. I'm going to plank on my couch at 2pm. Go on, dare me.

The new generation, didn't think it possible but they seem to be getting dumber everyday. No future.
Only a matter of time before somene loses their life. What a silly craze and why does it have to involve utter life threatening situations.

Wow, thank god the police are out there protecting the world from this "potentially" serious criminal element. P.S. Looks like all you robbers and rapists are free to get on with your job while the police rid the world of the horrors of people lying straight for two seconds while they have a photo taken.

Gee what a terrible thing to be doing. lying down on the ground. Australia is becoming an absolute joke with the amount of rules going on. Let people have a bit of fun. It might seem like a stupid thing to do by some, but who is getting hurt doing this stuff. NO ONE!!!

im getting paid 120k a year to plank all over the world as a pro planker...hey if someone is dumb enough to pay me and i get free travel for it at 23...why not. To those having a go at it...enjoy your 5 day a week morning train ride like its the calcutta express.
To all those people who are against planking, im sure all the plankers out there would be against your boring, mundane activities that you get up to, one of which would be writing to the Courier Mail to complain about every little thing that you don't understand. Live and let Plank!

Generation Y - You guys sure know how to push the fun barrier....... So glad I grew up in the 80s and 90s!
Have you ever lain on the roof of a car before? They usually dent. If I saw someone trying to get onto the roof of my car I would go them too. It's not about "planking" its about respecting other people and not doing stupid things which are dangerous. Keep planking but do it safely, obviously.

For crying out loud! Aren't we turning into a society of old fuddy duddies. It's a fad - it will pass. But really, it that big a deal? Let young people, act like YOUNG people. Give them a break!

I'm 40 and though I was too old to get involved but I'm going to give it a try now. Yes, it's silly but it's fun and harmless.

OH MY GOODNESS. Peoples are lying down on stuff! Ahhhhhhhh!!! What is this world coming to? Seriously Courier Mail, do you not have better stuff to publish than this rubbish?
It's amazing how a generation can play xbox, text msg 1000 words a second, lay flat on the ground, and even sometimes understand an adult conversation. Get off the ground and get in the air and travel, see the world, expand your horizons. It's not expression, it's depression generation.

What a great country that can make a sport of lying down. Bring on the International Planking Championships! Maybe we could get our Commonwealth Games gurus to add planking to the official list of games. As for safety, maybe instead of stopping people we should encourage safe planking. This could spawn a complete industry in safe planking garb, helmets, elbow pads. Celebrity plankers could have their own brand of clothing - Mambo planking shirts. World class plankers could get sponsorship from Nike. Australia could get a new tourism slogan "Come to Australia, a land full of plankers". The opportunities are endless. Plank on I say!
