Should E-Commerce Website Use Social Media
All of us know about the power of social media and the huge amount of users in it, there are various social media tools like tweet deck in twitter that are available to all free of cost. Using these tools to get a lot of unique hits via social networks will be a good ploy in social media optimization.
It will be interesting to know how ecommerce and social media can get along for SEO here are the views of the people on this captivating discussion
Notechskills says:
That he is currently working on an ecommerce venture with a completely different SEO approach, he has been involved in building ecommerce business models and partners up with SEO guys as he is not aware of many things in SEO.
Recently he got a person who could become his partner claiming that one can get about 20000 unique hits by using social media tools, the person has a successful social media company. Is this possible?
Egol says:
“Yes... I can tweet "free beer" and bring in a 100,000 drunks... but they are not going to buy anything.”
When one finds a social media guru talking about conversions for a dollar spent, you have found the right person but they are one in a billion and mostly don’t offer their services for sale.
Notechskills says:
That makes sense,
Currently he is just getting hardly 3% conversions,
He knows tweets get indexed by search engines but will they make someone following the tweet visit the website?
Egol feels:
Instead of concentrating on how to make tweets that will make users visit, making content that users will tweet will be better as tweets drop rapidly from SERPs
Notechskills goes on to ask:
What happens when a tweet is updated, does it prolong its placement.
Egol feels:
It doesn’t matter as a few years later no one is going to worry whether their article is generating more tweets
Blaba feels:
To get 20000 unique hits, one has to write really useful content or articles, since ecommerce sites are not based on content, it would be better to concentrate on building a blog related to the product.
Notechskills says:
That he would agree on this idea but is it possible to get a lot of traffic form social media; generating tweets to beat other sites and will indexed tweets give the link juice for the site.
Egol says:
“If there is SEO value it is because google sees social "Buzz" about your site not because you are getting links. Buzz goes up and down based upon the activity of your site and the enthusiasm of your visitors
Don't count on tweets outranking other websites. They would have to be very weak sites to be beaten by tweets.
If you are trying to outrank other websites then spend your time putting evergreen PAGES on your site instead ephemeral tweets on twitter. Buzz on twitter evaporates immediately. Evergreen content attracts links, pulls traffic and grows more powerful.
Don't try to fool Google. Just put good content on your site and people will tweet about it without any work from you. If you have a good site social media will buzz about it. Tossing great content onto your site is like tossing gasoline on a fire. If you put crap on your site or on social media it will be like crapping on a fire. Which do you prefer?”
