Errors to be Avoided While Designing Websites

admin — December 4, 2009 - 17:37

One of the important assets a web designer needs to have is an indepth understanding of the working of a website. Most often a website is rejected due to its “looks”. A good website eventually is a good combination of design and code. Following are some of the common website design mistakes.

1. The visitor should know what the product is within a couple of seconds. The site needs to communicate quickly before the visitor is distracted to move to another site.

2. Make the content easy to understand by using bullet points, headers, subheadings which assists the reader to filter what he/she is looking for.

3. Avoid using unreadable fonts. Flowery fonts may be impressive but it is hard to be read. Make sure that the font size is not too small and is legible.

External CSS

admin — September 17, 2009 - 15:02

When using Cascading Style Sheets(CSS),it is advisable to use External Style Sheets. External CSS is a file that contains only CSS code and is saved with a ".css" file extension. This CSS file is then referenced in your HTML using the instead of .

Placing CSS in a separate file has the following advantages:

  • It allows the web designer to completely segregate content(HTML) and design (CSS).
  • It's much easier to reuse your CSS code if you have it in a separate file. Instead of typing the same CSS code on every web page you have, simply have many pages refer to a single CSS file with the "link" tag.
  • Major changes can be made to your web pages with just a few changes in a single CSS file.
